Quality Control for Production of Continuous Material
QuellTech laser metrology in practice
1. Non-Contact Inline Supervision in the Production of Continuous Material
Dimensional fluctuations in continuous material, if not discovered in the course of the production, often give rise to expensive customer complaint. Quelltech laser scanner measuring technology offers a convenient method for non-contact localization of defects, and to specify the concerned zones in the material.
As an example, let’s have look at a delivery of a cable drum, charged with a cable of 5 km length, and a defect occurring only in a zone of 10 m length. Without Quelltech measuring technology, even the presence of the defect would be unknown, and of course not the segment in question.
Production of cables, e.g. for energy transmission, like underground cables with superconductivity or multicore cables with sheath, must be accompanied by a 100% supervision regarding surface quality and dimensions. Without this quality inspection, manufacturing defects may infiltrate and give reason to cost-intensive rework.
For QuellTech laser scanner technology, it is not difficult to accurately determine the position of irregularities and make apply a mark, so that the concerned position can be removed before winding up the cable. A slowly increasing change of dimension can be discovered in time as well, so that a system for preventive maintenance can be implemented within the production line.
We would be happy to carry out a first test measurement for you with your laser scanner applications, give you an assessment of the feasibility and provide you with technical and sales support in the further procedure.
